Rosa Luisa DeLauro was born in March 1943 in New Haven, Connecticut. She earned an undergraduate degree from Marymount College and a master’s in Internation Politics from Columbia University.

She served as a campaign manager and chief of staff for Senator Chris Dodd. She was elected U.S. Representative for Connecticut’s 3rd District in 1990. She has been reelected to sixteen terms. She became chair of the House Appropriations Committee upon the resignation of Representative Nita Lowey.

She is married to Stanley Greenberg. They have three children and six grandchildren.

In the News…

Tax credits in the form of monthly payments are being considered to help feed, clothe, and house children in low-income families. The proferred benefit in the current aid package from the president’s administration would expire at the end of 2021.

Chair of the House Appropriations Committee Representative Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut introduced legislation with Representatives Suzan DelBene of Washington and Ritchie Torres of New York this week that would permanently expand the child tax credit and make it fully refundable. The bill would also make the credits available in U.S. territories.

“We build the architecture for the future,” said Representative DeLauro “That has been underlying so that we’re not just throwing money at a situation, but we are looking at enduring, transformational change.”
